Abstract

As a global lingua franca, English has become a language of modern technologies, or, more precisely - a language of science and technology in general. Its influence on other languages is constantly growing and, consequently, a number of English loanwords in these languages is growing as well, opening the wide space for emergence of ‘false friends’. False friends pose a significant problem in translation process, particularly the one dealing with technical discourse. The aim of this paper is to give a contribution to current research in the field of false friends by identifying, presenting and analysing the occurrence of false friends in technical register, which would hopefully alleviate the said problem.
